The master and issued copies have different custodians and different uses.

Master
Retain the master with the ceremonial collection. It is not to be carried by a succession of holders as a transferable office. A request for a new striking must identify the approved design and the intended issue.

Issued copies
Record the recipient, occasion, approving office and issue date. The entry explains the recognition; the coin is not a warrant of command or a substitute for an appointment instrument.

Replacement
A replacement is entered against the earlier issue, with the reason for replacement. Do not create a second award by issuing a second object. Public descriptions may name the occasion without publishing a recipient’s private particulars.
