LEX ASTRA ACADEMY EN 110 / Vessel familiarization and role check Lex Astra · Role and equipment instruction Teaching edition 2956.3 / Live practical ———————————————————————————————————————————————— LEARNER WORKSHEET For crew seeking a defined vessel-role endorsement. This is a private working copy. Downloading submits nothing and records no completion. Use exercise identifiers, not private player information. ———————————————————————————————————————————————— SESSION DETAILS Learner identifier: ____________________________________________________________ Instructor / assessor: ____________________________________________________________ Session date / agreed role or variant: ____________________________________________________________ Vessel, configuration and equipment: ____________________________________________________________ LIVE build / capability test date / tested by (if practical): ____________________________________________________________ Stop signal / recovery contact / communication arrangement: ____________________________________________________________ ———————————————————————————————————————————————— PURPOSE Demonstrate one named role on the vessel and configuration used for your practical assessment. COURSE CONTEXT The role check keeps the endorsement useful to a crew scheduler: it identifies what the operator can do on the configuration actually checked. ———————————————————————————————————————————————— ENTRY Complete: FD 100, FD 110, FD 120, FD 130, FD 140, FD 199 Assessed roles: Pilot — FD 110 Pilot evidence or assessed equivalent required; Named crew station — no pilot credit Equipment: A named vessel and tested configuration; Pilot checks require FD 110 Pilot or assessed equivalent. ———————————————————————————————————————————————— CASE: Same station name, different configuration 1. The organizer names the vessel, fitted configuration and station before the session. 2. The candidate has experience at a similarly named station elsewhere. 3. The drill makes the normal exit or station unavailable and uses the checked recovery alternative. ———————————————————————————————————————————————— TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE AND GAME SKILLS Earn a ship-specific handling and station endorsement Practical instruction revision 1 / 9 October 2026 Learn the physical layout Identify entrances, exits, seats, engineering panels, cargo access and medical equipment actually installed on the vessel variant. Walk an alternate exit and check which doors need local interaction. Inspect the configured components and control bindings. A different variant or changed loadout can alter access and the capability covered by the endorsement. Measure the working envelope For pilots, practise translation, stopping, turn response and landing in the intended environment with a representative load. For station operators, demonstrate the station’s normal cycle and its actual blind spots or access limits. Record the configuration and demonstrated task rather than claiming universal competence on every ship carrying the same manufacturer name. Demonstrate the relevant abnormal response Use a tested interruption such as a blocked normal exit, lost station access or cancelled landing. The learner identifies the indication and executes the verified alternative. Do not invent component repair access on a hull that lacks it or a control-transfer method the ship does not support. Keep unresolved differences visible for later endorsement work. PRACTICAL DRILL Complete a vessel walk-through, normal task and one reversible interruption on the exact variant and station requested. Record Pilot or station scope, configuration, environment and limits. OBSERVED-SKILL CHECKS The learner locates normal and alternate access without being led. My action / observed result / assistance / evidence reference: ____________________________________________________________ Live, simulated or unobserved: ____________________________________________________________ The normal task is demonstrated on the recorded configuration. My action / observed result / assistance / evidence reference: ____________________________________________________________ Live, simulated or unobserved: ____________________________________________________________ The abnormal response stays within the vessel’s verified capability. My action / observed result / assistance / evidence reference: ____________________________________________________________ Live, simulated or unobserved: ____________________________________________________________ Apply the technical checks in the agreed role. Discussion and simulation do not certify live handling; Crew Support evidence does not confer Pilot qualification. GAME REFERENCES The linked pages were read for this revision. Community references mix release eras; each source note identifies what is used and what is excluded. Technical explanations below are an Academy synthesis, and drills and performance checks are Academy-designed. Before practice, compare the named actions with the installed LIVE build and actual equipment. Bind actions by name rather than copying old default keys. Research is not an in-game validation. Official LIVE release check: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/patch-notes ———————————————————————————————————————————————— METHOD 1: Identify the exact scope Record the vessel, configuration, station and assigned role. Ask which actions this check covers and which remain outside it. Similar controls on another vessel do not establish that the same exits, limits or recovery arrangements apply. A familiarisation record should identify the vessel variant, relevant configuration, assigned station and permitted actions. Walk the route to the station and the recovery exit before beginning. The endorsement is useful to another crew only if it describes the operational scope rather than relying on a broad label such as “qualified aboard ship.” Practise: Complete the vessel and role description. Ready when: The record identifies the actual configuration and actions to be observed. My action and observed result: ____________________________________________________________ Evidence reference: ____________________________________________________________ ———————————————————————————————————————————————— METHOD 2: Demonstrate the routine actions Use the station controls checked by the instructor and locate the relevant exits and recovery route. Work independently while the observer records your actions. A Pilot check requires Pilot preparation; a crew-station check does not silently include it. Demonstrate the normal task from initial access through a stable operating state, then explain the indications used to monitor it. Check actual bindings and station permissions. Similar-looking controls can differ in effect or availability; prior experience shortens preparation but does not replace the observed configuration-specific action. Practise: Operate the assigned station and explain its limits. Ready when: You demonstrate the named actions in the agreed role without unsupported handling credit. My action and observed result: ____________________________________________________________ Evidence reference: ____________________________________________________________ ———————————————————————————————————————————————— METHOD 3: Show how to stop and hand over Rehearse an aborted task and report the station’s state to the next operator. Explain the alternate exit or recovery action checked for this configuration. Keep the final endorsement specific enough that another crew can tell what was demonstrated. Choose an interruption relevant to the role: loss of station access, a cancelled task or an unavailable normal exit. Rehearse the verified alternative without introducing uncontrolled hazards. Record both what was demonstrated and what could not be checked, allowing a later differences assessment to target the remaining configuration gap. Practise: Carry out the station’s abort and handover drill. Ready when: The record states the observed response and any limitation left unchecked. My action and observed result: ____________________________________________________________ Evidence reference: ____________________________________________________________ ———————————————————————————————————————————————— WORKED DECISION A navigator passes the station check on the session vessel. The record names that configuration and navigation role rather than describing a universal pilot qualification. 1. Record the actual configuration and compare the relevant controls and recovery route with the candidate’s prior experience. 2. Observe the required normal station actions independently. Preserve the boundary between a crew station and Pilot handling. 3. Introduce the unavailable-station condition and observe the checked recovery and handover. List any unobserved action as a limit, not as covered by general experience. ———————————————————————————————————————————————— YOUR EXERCISE Complete the configuration check, demonstrate the station actions and give the abort handover. The record must identify the exact scope. WHAT CHANGES The normal station or exit becomes unavailable in the exercise. My decision and reason: ____________________________________________________________ ———————————————————————————————————————————————— YOUR WORKING RECORD Vessel / configuration / station / assessed role ____________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________ Checked action / individual observation / limitation ____________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________ Unavailable station or exit / recovery / relief acceptance ____________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________ ———————————————————————————————————————————————— CHECK YOUR REASONING The same station name appears on another vessel. Does this check automatically cover it? My answer before consulting the explanation: ____________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________ ———————————————————————————————————————————————— EVIDENCE TO KEEP A configuration record and individual station and recovery observations. Criterion 1: The record identifies the actual configuration and actions to be observed. Individual evidence / finding / assessor's reason: ____________________________________________________________ Criterion 2: You demonstrate the named actions in the agreed role without unsupported handling credit. Individual evidence / finding / assessor's reason: ____________________________________________________________ Criterion 3: The record states the observed response and any limitation left unchecked. Individual evidence / finding / assessor's reason: ____________________________________________________________ ———————————————————————————————————————————————— FINDINGS AND NEXT ATTEMPT Demonstrated: observed work meets the criterion. Further practice required: an observed gap needs a specific practice task. Interrupted: conditions prevented valid assessment; not a failure. Not assessed: enough evidence has not yet been collected. All three criteria need individual evidence. A team result or quiz cannot replace an unobserved practical. Practice variant for a fresh attempt: Change one supported configuration detail and assess the affected actions, rather than claiming automatic transfer to the new setup. My next practice task: ____________________________________________________________ Review contact: ____________________________________________________________ ———————————————————————————————————————————————— COMPARE AFTER ANSWERING No. Compare the configuration, controls and recovery routes and assess the differences. The record covers what was actually demonstrated, not the label alone. ———————————————————————————————————————————————— SOURCE AND EDITION Keeping the Academy register /academy/archives/register-practice Explains why attendance, examination and appointment remain distinct entries. An equipment check likewise records its demonstrated role and limits rather than a blanket authority. The lessons are current Academy teaching, not newly discovered historical records.
