An office return separates the Academy’s first twelve recommendations from appointments made aboard the fleet flagship.

Return to the Academy
Twelve candidates were presented aboard the fleet flagship. The Academy copies record completion of instruction and the recommendations made by the examining officers. Appointment instruments belong to the receiving command and are to be entered by reference when returned.

Correction to the bound copy
The heading “Academy commissions” is to be read as “recommendations presented for commission.” Do not scrape out the earlier heading. Rule it through once, enter the correction at the margin and retain the date of correction.

Public extract
This return records the number presented and the division of responsibility. It is not a nominal roll, a vessel identification or evidence that every graduate received the same duties. Requests for a person’s service record must go to its custodian.
