Case CT–2: relieving an unavailable commander LAA / 2956 / WATCH-RELIEF-CASE 2956 · public reading copy CDR Maren Haldorsen The command programme examines whether an operation can continue when its author leaves. Brief The operation is between movements when its lead must leave the session. A cargo discrepancy remains open and a receiving crew has changed its availability. The replacement leader has not attended the earlier planning discussion. Handover Provide the current purpose, resources, unresolved decisions and stopping conditions in a form the replacement can use. Distinguish what was agreed from what the departing lead merely intended to discuss. Observation The assessor watches the replacement make the next decision without private coaching from the original lead. Questions are allowed; inaccessible assumptions should be identified in the debrief. Result Assess the handover and the candidate’s response to its shortcomings. The purpose is a workable transfer of responsibility, not a demonstration that one indispensable person can remain awake longer than everyone else. Lex Astra Academy / HLN fictional setting.
