EN 210 / Optional endorsements

Engineering and damage-control practical

Respond to a ship fault using a verified game tool, coordinate with the crew and check the effect.

Publication and delivery

This course is published for study. Publication does not confirm an available class, appointed instructor or completed practical validation. Before booking, obtain a session brief naming the organiser, instructor and assessor, equipment access and any independent review arrangements.

Before live assessment, the organiser must record the current LIVE build, validation date, ship and equipment used, tasks checked and any known limitations. If a required mechanic is unavailable, defer the affected assessment rather than certify an unobserved outcome. A material game update calls for a check of affected tasks, not cancellation of earlier academic achievements.

Your brief

For engineering candidates with matching station preparation.

The engineering endorsement is narrower than Fleet Studies coordination: it needs an observed tool action and an honest effect check on a reproduced fault.

An action without confirmed effect

Practice case · EN 210 · 2956 teaching edition

  • Staff must first record a working fault, intervention and effect indication on the session’s LIVE build.
  • The candidate coordinates the intervention with the affected stations.
  • In the practice change, the expected feedback is absent after the action.
Before you begin: entry and equipment

EN 110 evidence must match this equipment and station role.

Bring or arrange

Matching EN 110 evidence, a reproduced LIVE fault and tested intervention tools.

The organizer must confirm equipment access before booking. No ship purchase, pledge tier or donation is required.

Practical instruction revision 1 · 9 October 2026

Engineering diagnosis, repairs and fire response

Trace the supply path before replacing parts

Use the engineering terminal and local component access to distinguish an unpowered device, a damaged component and an interrupted supply path such as a fuse fault where supported. Identify the affected capability and ask the bridge what must remain powered. Record the original state, then isolate only the authorised part of the system. A whole-ship reset is not a substitute for diagnosis.

Repair or replace with verified compatibility

Bring the supported repair tool and consumables, or a compatible replacement component or fuse. Check the installed component’s size and access before removing it; a spare outside the compartment may not fit through the route. Use the current interaction to repair or replace, then inspect both the component state and the restored service. Surface hull repair, component repair and restoring a supply connection solve different problems.

Control heat and fire without trapping the crew

If fire gameplay is supported, report the affected compartment, protect an escape route and use the demonstrated extinguisher interaction while monitoring whether the fire actually decreases. Venting is a coordinated ship action: confirm personnel location and suit protection, isolate the intended compartment and obtain bridge approval before changing atmosphere. Restore a habitable state and investigate the heat or damaged system before declaring recovery. Use a simulated report when a controlled fire cannot be set up safely.

Practical drill

On a supported vessel, diagnose one reversible fault, carry out an authorised repair or replacement and verify the service returns. Rehearse the fire response with a simulated compartment report unless the instructor has a controlled, recoverable live setup.

Observed-skill checks

  • The fault is traced from indication to the relevant component or supply path.
  • The intervention uses compatible equipment and includes a functional recheck.
  • Fire or atmosphere actions account for crew location, protection and escape; simulation remains labelled.

Use these checks to document the technical evidence supporting the course outcomes in your agreed role. Record what you personally performed, what assistance you needed and what remains unobserved. A discussion or simulated action does not certify live equipment handling; Crew Support evidence does not confer Pilot qualification.

Game references and build-sensitive details

The linked pages were read for this revision. Community references mix release eras; each source note identifies what is used and what is excluded. Technical explanations below are an Academy synthesis, and drills and performance checks are Academy-designed. Before practice, compare the named actions with the installed LIVE build and actual equipment. Bind actions by name rather than copying old default keys. Research is not an in-game validation.

Learn the method

1. Start with a reproducible fault

The instructor must reproduce the fault, indication and tool action on the current LIVE build before scheduling this practical. Record that setup. If the fault cannot be reproduced, teach the reasoning separately rather than inventing a practical success.

Separate symptom, suspected cause and tested intervention in the fault log. Reproducing the symptom allows the instructor to establish an observable starting condition; it does not prove every possible cause. Select a fault whose relevant feedback can be seen by both learner and observer, with a controlled reset available.

Practise
Identify the checked fault and indication.
Ready when
You state the observed fault and the tool actions actually available for this setup.

2. Coordinate the intervention

Tell the affected stations what you intend to do and obtain the agreed clearance. Perform only the tested action within your station role. Keep the observer able to see the relevant control use and result.

Before acting, identify which station or capability may be affected and obtain the clearance required by the exercise brief. Keep the coordinator informed of the action and any unexpected result. Do not generalise from one successful tool interaction to repairs, component changes or damage-control capabilities that this configuration has not demonstrated.

Practise
Carry out the verified intervention.
Ready when
Your action is observed with the recorded role, equipment and build.

3. Compare the before and after

Use the same status indication to check the effect. Record an attempt without improvement as such, then brief the next action. If the expected feedback is missing, do not claim a verified repair; distinguish the learner’s action from the equipment’s failure to show a result.

Use a consistent before-and-after comparison and retain the observation time. If the indication improves, check whether the operational limitation has actually cleared; a partial change may support only a reduced task. If feedback disappears, preserve the action evidence and leave the effect unresolved rather than manufacturing a successful repair entry.

Practise
Record the effect or unresolved result and hand over.
Ready when
Your report separates the action attempted, observed effect and remaining uncertainty.

A worked decision

The tool operates but the status indication does not confirm improvement. The learner reports an unverified effect and hands the unresolved fault to the coordinator.

  1. Identify the reproduced indication and checked tool action. If staff cannot reproduce them before the session, do not open the practical as ready.
  2. Obtain the agreed clearance and perform the action under observation. Record the actual equipment and role.
  3. Compare the available before and after evidence. Report effect unverified, brief the coordinator and preserve any demonstrated action; missing feedback does not justify inventing a repair or a failure.

Try it yourself

Complete the checked intervention and effect report. If environmental failure prevents the observation, retain the partial evidence and arrange a retest.

What changes during the exercise

The expected status feedback is absent after the intervention.

Check your reasoning

The tool behaved as taught but feedback disappeared. Is that automatically a learner failure?

Compare your reasoning

No. Preserve evidence of the action and report the missing effect. Assess what was observed; mark the effect-check outcome interrupted or not assessed if the environment prevents a valid demonstration.

Answer first, then compare. In a later session, explain the decision using a changed case without referring to this answer.

How completion is judged

A fault-response log identifying equipment, build, action and observed effect.

The assessor checks your own work against all three “Ready when” criteria above. Use the observed-skill checks in the technical chapter to establish the applicable game-handling evidence in your agreed role. A successful team result does not replace an action they did not observe.

Findings, another attempt and review
Demonstrated
Your observed work meets the criterion in the agreed role.
Further practice required
The assessor identifies the observed gap and the specific practice needed.
Interrupted
Equipment, staffing or personal circumstances prevented a valid assessment. This is not a failure.
Not assessed
There is not yet enough evidence for this outcome.

A fresh attempt

After staff reproduce the capability again, vary the permitted fault or receiving condition and reassess the interrupted outcome.

Reassess the missing outcome, plus any linked skill that needs new evidence. For prior learning, compare existing work with the same criteria and observe any missing practical action.

Ask for the reasons behind a finding. Reviews must be handled by someone independent of the original decision; defer the review if that person is not available.

For instructors

Session setup and coaching

Prepare the session

Matching EN 110 evidence, a reproduced LIVE fault and tested intervention tools.

Assign crew stations and tell each learner what they will practise. The instructor must be able to hear the calls and see the action being assessed. Brief the callsigns, channel, route and expected duration. Replace the example locations with the places you will actually use.

  1. Ask the learner to explain the relevant earlier procedure without notes; correct any gap before the practical.
  2. Teach and demonstrate the technical chapter using the actual game indications. Run its drill with feedback before connecting those skills to the three methods and worked decision. Use the observed-skill checks to identify missing handling evidence.
  3. Let the learner complete the normal procedure first, then introduce the change described in the exercise. Give them time to respond without coaching. Keep unrelated failures out of this attempt.
  4. Record the learner's action against each criterion. Give one specific next step for any gap and transfer unfinished operational work before closing.

What to watch for in EN 210

Separate correct uncertainty reporting from an unobserved successful-effect check. The endorsement cannot claim the latter without evidence.

If another attempt is needed

After staff reproduce the capability again, vary the permitted fault or receiving condition and reassess the interrupted outcome.

Running the exercise

Before the crew assembles, try the exercise in the ship you intend to use. Check station access, equipment and the route. Brief the crew on any faults that affect the task. If a bug prevents someone completing it, repeat that part once it works; do not record a failure for a broken mechanic.

Brief the command “Stop exercise” before starting. On that call, cease the drill and tell the instructor what needs attention. For weapons practice, identify the participating ships and crew; anyone else entering the area is a reason to hold fire.

Session administration: use player handles in your notes. Ask before recording voice or video, and agree when the recording will be deleted. Academy rules and review procedure.
