Standards that can be examined

An assessment must be explainable to the person assessed. Authority over a cadet includes an obligation to keep the evidence, hear a response and correct a mistaken decision.

For students

What do you need to resolve?

Preparing for assessment

Before the session, check the published outcomes, your assessed role and the joining instructions. Ask the teaching team to clarify equipment, communication arrangements and the evidence they will observe. Preparation is not complete until you know how to stop or report an interruption.

Understanding a result

Ask which outcome was demonstrated and which requires further evidence. The record should identify the task, your work, the assessor and the basis of the finding. A group result cannot replace an individual observation.

Returning for reassessment

Use the feedback to agree targeted practice with your teaching team. Reassessment uses a changed but equivalent task and is recorded as a new attempt. Further work in one outcome does not automatically mean repeating the entire programme.

Correcting or contesting a record

Identify the course, assessment date and specific disputed entry when contacting the Registrar. Distinguish a clerical mistake from disagreement with academic judgment. The latter requires independent review, not a private alteration by the original assessor.

A session is interrupted

Stop when participation is unsafe or a technical failure prevents valid observation. Report what was interrupted and what evidence remains usable. Technical interruption is not learner failure; agree the remaining assessment with the teaching team.

The regulations below remain the authoritative reference. This guide does not submit a review request or change an assessment.

Current competency framework

The current curriculum defines forty course packages and explicit award requirements. Record each outcome as demonstrated, further practice required, interrupted or not assessed. All mandatory outcomes require individual evidence; technical interruption is not learner failure.

What an examination records

The task, criteria, candidate’s work, examining panel and result belong in the assessment record. A recommendation states any further work required. No school is assigned a quota of failures, and endurance alone is not a substitute for competence.

The Crucible

The Crucible depicts seventy-two hours of fictional operations. Players participate in agreed bounded sessions with relief, not continuous attendance or an endurance test. Out-of-character stop requests always override fictional orders. Candidates are examined on delegation, adaptation, restraint and the care of people affected by their plan. Independent directing staff may stop the exercise.

A failed exercise can lead to further instruction or reassessment. It does not erase an unrelated specialist certification. A successful exercise does not itself grant a commission.

An unsafe or unlawful instruction

A cadet may question an instruction and report through a responsible officer. When immediate harm cannot wait, necessary action can precede notification. The subsequent account must explain the circumstances, the action and the authority relied upon.

Good-faith safety reporting is not treated as disloyalty. Examination staff distinguish a deliberate refusal to perform a lawful task from a reasoned challenge or an emergency intervention.

Misconduct and appeal

A precautionary removal from an exercise is not a finding of guilt. Allegations require notice, evidence, an opportunity to respond and a recorded decision. Panel members recuse themselves from matters in which they are complainants or material witnesses.

The cadet may use an advocate and appeal a disciplinary decision within thirty standard days. Academic reviews are heard independently of the original panel. The Registrar retains both the original decision and the correction.

The limits of Academy authority

The Ordinance governs the fictional institution’s teaching and internal proceedings. Corporate instruments govern matters outside that remit. It does not create real legal authority over a player, transfer ownership of a project or impose residential duties on contributors.
