Regulations for the Crucible
2956.2 · bounded-session assessment edition
The Crucible depicts seventy-two hours of fictional operations. Actual player delivery uses agreed bounded sessions and relief, such as three two-hour sessions; there is no continuous attendance or endurance requirement. The phase hours below are scenario chronology, not a player timetable.
Before the exercise
Candidates must meet the published Command entry gate and CT 380 prerequisite. They receive criteria, stop procedures, consent boundaries and review routes before the exercise. Staff retain controlled summative variants privately. A real independent stop authority sits outside the simulated chain of command; any in-game medical support must use verified gameplay. Confirm current LIVE build, equipment, individual observation capacity and bounded player sessions before opening a section.
Hours 0–12 · Taking the watch
The incoming team establishes its objective, authority, watchbill and reserve. Examiners assess whether responsibilities can be handed over without losing unresolved work.
Hours 12–36 · Reduced capacity
Fuel, lift or reception capacity is reduced in the scenario. Candidates revise the plan and tell affected offices what can no longer be delivered. Rest and relief are planned duties; neglecting them counts against readiness.
Hours 36–60 · Conflicting reports
Teams receive information of unequal reliability. They must identify the source, seek corroboration and record the uncertainty under which a decision is taken. A candidate may challenge an unsafe or unlawful instruction.
Hours 60–72 · The Long Night
A simulated communications failure tests withdrawal and pre-arranged contingencies. Exercise communications may fail; real safety communications remain available. Directing staff can stop or modify the scenario without academic penalty for a good-faith safety report.
Assessment and recovery
The panel considers preparation, delegation, civilian protection, restraint, adaptation and record quality. There is no target wash-out rate. Candidates receive protected recovery time before their individual review. Reassessment, further instruction or a recommendation for appointment is recorded with reasons.
