THE APPROACH

How we approach
roleplay.

Use HLN’s setting for your missions and characters. Ordinary conversation is welcome, and roleplay is never a condition of joining an operation.

Use a mission brief.

A brief identifies the destination, objective, and assigned crew. Add a client, cargo, or local situation from the setting when it helps the group plan the session.

Choose your level of roleplay.

Soft roleplay leaves room for ordinary conversation and different levels of immersion. You can enjoy the shared world without making every interaction a performance.

Assign a clear job.

A billet describes a job someone is carrying out. Rank and institutional history provide context; useful contribution, communication, and follow-through give that responsibility meaning.

Keep a debrief.

Briefings explain the objective. Operations produce outcomes. Debriefs preserve what we learned, so the next session can build on the last.

Plan around real availability.

Real life comes first. Clear expectations and honest availability make it easier to contribute, take a break, and return without letting the team plan around commitments you cannot make.

Separate lore from player results.

Our fictional institutions provide a shared setting. Player accomplishments, current services, and future ambitions should remain distinguishable. The story grows from what people actually do.
