IO 250 / Industrial Operations

Supply coordination and replenishment

Turn requests into a load that fits, serves the stated priorities and reaches an accepting receiver.

Publication and delivery

This course is published for study. Publication does not confirm an available class, appointed instructor or completed practical validation. Before booking, obtain a session brief naming the organiser, instructor and assessor, equipment access and any independent review arrangements.

Before live assessment, the organiser must record the current LIVE build, validation date, ship and equipment used, tasks checked and any known limitations. If a required mechanic is unavailable, defer the affected assessment rather than certify an unobserved outcome. A material game update calls for a check of affected tasks, not cancellation of earlier academic achievements.

Your brief

For supply coordinators balancing fleet and civil needs.

This industrial planning case makes the recipient’s purpose part of the load decision. The coordinator cannot satisfy a request by sending an unapproved substitute.

Eight spaces for twelve requests

Practice case · IO 250 · 2956 teaching edition

  • The request is six priority containers and six support containers, all equal in space for this case.
  • Eight checked spaces are available. The requester has approved priority-first allocation.
  • One priority container is unavailable. A different item is offered, but its suitability is not confirmed.
Before you begin: entry and equipment

Bring or arrange

The case request sheet or a small cargo exercise with known capacity.

The organizer must confirm equipment access before booking. No ship purchase, pledge tier or donation is required.

Technical knowledge and game skills

Practical instruction revision 1 · 9 October 2026

Supplying compatible equipment to a working crew

Specify the usable item

Request the weapon model and magazine type, tool and attachment, or component size and permitted fit rather than “ammo” or “spares.” Check available inventory at the actual location. A nominally similar magazine or a component with the wrong fit cannot meet the requirement. For medical support, distinguish handheld supplies from the medical bed’s own consumable requirements.

Pack for access at the point of use

Group supplies by receiver and keep urgent items reachable without emptying the hold. Test a transfer to the intended player or container before bulk dispatch. A ledger allocation is not delivered stock while the item remains in an inaccessible ship inventory. Keep enough handling space to open, inspect and remove the required items.

Replenish from consumption

Ask crews what they actually consumed and what remains usable after the sortie. Separate reserved stock from free stock and damaged equipment from serviceable spares. Set a reorder trigger that covers the observed resupply journey. When substituting an item, have the receiver equip or fit it where supported before closing the demand.

Practical drill

Supply two crews with different weapons and one medical or engineering requirement. Include a deliberately incompatible item in the planning list; detect it before loading, then demonstrate the final transfer and receipt.

Observed-skill checks

  • Compatibility is checked by model or supported fit, not broad item category.
  • Urgent supplies are physically accessible to the receiver.
  • The post-sortie account distinguishes consumption, reserved stock and unmet demand.

Use these checks to document the technical evidence supporting the course outcomes in your agreed role. Record what you personally performed, what assistance you needed and what remains unobserved. A discussion or simulated action does not certify live equipment handling; Crew Support evidence does not confer Pilot qualification.

Game references and build-sensitive details

The linked pages were read for this revision. Community references mix release eras; each source note identifies what is used and what is excluded. Technical explanations below are an Academy synthesis, and drills and performance checks are Academy-designed. Before practice, compare the named actions with the installed LIVE build and actual equipment. Bind actions by name rather than copying old default keys. Research is not an in-game validation.

Learn the method

1. Clarify the request before loading

Ask what is needed, in which units, for what task and by when. Confirm the receiving point and person. “Send supplies” is not enough to choose a load, and twelve containers is not the same request as twelve units inside one container.

Translate demand into a service requirement: who needs the item, what task it enables and the latest useful delivery. A late complete load can be less useful than an agreed partial load on time. Ask the requester to identify the consequence of a shortage rather than allowing every request to declare itself urgent.

Practise
Repair an incomplete supply request.
Ready when
The request states units, quantity, purpose, receiver and latest useful arrival.

2. Allocate the space you have

Compare requests with actual capacity. Apply the stated mission priority and show which requests will not fit. Get a decision on the remainder before dispatch instead of promising every requester a full delivery.

Distinguish stock on hand, stock already committed and stock expected but not received. Only the first, less existing commitments, is available for a new allocation. Check physical loading constraints separately from the ledger so a mathematically balanced allocation does not become an impossible load at the ramp.

Practise
Allocate eight spaces against twelve requested containers.
Ready when
The load fits the checked capacity and names the unmet requests.

3. Ask before substituting

Describe the shortage and the proposed alternative to the requester. Ask whether a partial load, substitute or later delivery still serves the task. Record the answer and confirm what Receiving actually accepts.

A substitution changes the requirement, not just the manifest. Confirm compatibility and usefulness with the requester before dispatch, then tell Receiving which original item it replaces. Keep the unmet balance visible. An accepted partial delivery closes that portion of the request, not the need that the missing portion was intended to serve.

Practise
Resolve an unavailable priority item.
Ready when
The requester approves the change and the receipt preserves the remaining gap.

A worked decision

Eight spaces are available for twelve containers. The requester accepts six priority and two support containers; four support containers stay on the open request.

  1. Allocate six priority and two support spaces initially, with four support containers explicitly deferred.
  2. Report the missing priority item and ask the requester whether the alternative serves the task. Do not quietly load it because it fits.
  3. If the requester declines substitution, record the revised approved load and both types of unmet need. Obtain the receiving count separately.

Try it yourself

Clarify the request, draft the first load and revise it after the shortage. Keep an open-request list the next coordinator can use.

What changes during the exercise

A priority item is unavailable just before dispatch.

Check your reasoning

A substitute fits the vessel. Is that enough to load it?

Compare your reasoning

No. Fit does not establish usefulness. Confirm with the requester that it meets the need, then record the changed request and remaining shortage.

Answer first, then compare. In a later session, explain the decision using a changed case without referring to this answer.

How completion is judged

A clarified request, loading decision and receiving handover.

The assessor checks your own work against all three “Ready when” criteria above. Use the observed-skill checks in the technical chapter to establish the applicable game-handling evidence in your agreed role. A successful team result does not replace an action they did not observe.

Findings, another attempt and review
Demonstrated
Your observed work meets the criterion in the agreed role.
Further practice required
The assessor identifies the observed gap and the specific practice needed.
Interrupted
Equipment, staffing or personal circumstances prevented a valid assessment. This is not a failure.
Not assessed
There is not yet enough evidence for this outcome.

A fresh attempt

Restore the item but reduce the latest useful arrival window. Require a partial or cancelled request decision.

Reassess the missing outcome, plus any linked skill that needs new evidence. For prior learning, compare existing work with the same criteria and observe any missing practical action.

Ask for the reasons behind a finding. Reviews must be handled by someone independent of the original decision; defer the review if that person is not available.

For instructors

Session setup and coaching

Prepare the session

The case request sheet or a small cargo exercise with known capacity.

Assign crew stations and tell each learner what they will practise. The instructor must be able to hear the calls and see the action being assessed. Brief the callsigns, channel, route and expected duration. Replace the example locations with the places you will actually use.

  1. Ask the learner to explain the relevant earlier procedure without notes; correct any gap before the practical.
  2. Teach and demonstrate the technical chapter using the actual game indications. Run its drill with feedback before connecting those skills to the three methods and worked decision. Use the observed-skill checks to identify missing handling evidence.
  3. Let the learner complete the normal procedure first, then introduce the change described in the exercise. Give them time to respond without coaching. Keep unrelated failures out of this attempt.
  4. Record the learner's action against each criterion. Give one specific next step for any gap and transfer unfinished operational work before closing.

What to watch for in IO 250

Check units before arithmetic. Then ask who approved the substitute and where the unanswered need remains recorded.

If another attempt is needed

Restore the item but reduce the latest useful arrival window. Require a partial or cancelled request decision.

Running the exercise

Before the crew assembles, try the exercise in the ship you intend to use. Check station access, equipment and the route. Brief the crew on any faults that affect the task. If a bug prevents someone completing it, repeat that part once it works; do not record a failure for a broken mechanic.

Brief the command “Stop exercise” before starting. On that call, cease the drill and tell the instructor what needs attention. For weapons practice, identify the participating ships and crew; anyone else entering the area is a reason to hold fire.

Session administration: use player handles in your notes. Ask before recording voice or video, and agree when the recording will be deleted. Academy rules and review procedure.
