Custody of the induction lamps

Practical instructions accompany the current induction ceremony.

Issue

Count the lamps before issue and name the person returning them. Inspect the fittings before candidates assemble. The ceremonial party must know the route and the person who may stop the procession.

Movement

Extinguish the lamps before travel between venues and relight them at the destination. A procession is not a reason to carry an unsafe flame or obstruct an exit. Where the venue requires it, use an approved unlit or electric fitting.

Participation

Provide an accessible route and an equivalent place in the ceremony for anyone who cannot use the principal walk. The oath may be read or affirmed in its approved wording. Memory, standing and physical endurance are not examinations of sincerity.
