Publication and delivery
This course is published for study. Publication does not confirm an available class, appointed instructor or completed practical validation. Before booking, obtain a session brief naming the organiser, instructor and assessor, equipment access and any independent review arrangements.
Before live assessment, the organiser must record the current LIVE build, validation date, ship and equipment used, tasks checked and any known limitations. If a required mechanic is unavailable, defer the affected assessment rather than certify an unobserved outcome. A material game update calls for a check of affected tasks, not cancellation of earlier academic achievements.
Your brief
For civil Services candidates integrating search, recovery, movement and reception.
The civil capstone measures whether the responding services remain connected when success at one stage exceeds the capacity of the next.
Search complete, response still open
Practice case · CS 299 · 2956 teaching edition
- The search locates four case participants. Required CS 202 practical observations are arranged separately for each candidate.
- A transport withdrawal reduces confirmed seats from four to two.
- The supplied movement priority is identifier order. Reception can accept the first two; further transport is unconfirmed.

Technical knowledge and game skills
Practical instruction revision 1 · 9 October 2026
Search, rescue and reception as one operation
Locate and secure an approach
Obtain the distress location and identify a reproducible access route. The search crew confirms the person, not just a beacon. The transport pilot chooses a landing or holding point with room to depart; the ground team reports the route from that point to the casualty. If the route is blocked, solve access before committing the medical operator.
Treat and move with complementary roles
The medical operator inspects health, injury and BDL while another participant maintains observation and contact. Assign one caller for casualty movement so competing tool or interaction attempts do not interfere. Confirm the supported transfer into transport, then reassess the patient and destination requirement. Do not treat a successful revive as permission to send an injured player back alone.
Complete the receiving treatment check
At the destination, transfer the patient and compare the bed’s result with the original injury report. Count located, reached, revived, transported and received people separately. If definitive treatment remains pending, transfer that responsibility by name. Replenish the consumed supplies and make the rescue crew recoverable before closing the mission.
Practical drill
Run a consenting-participant rescue from incomplete location through medical assessment to reception. Use simulated injury information where necessary and retain separate observations for coordination, piloting and medical-tool skills.
Observed-skill checks
- The location and extraction route are independently usable by transport.
- Medical intervention and reassessment are observed or explicitly marked as simulated.
- Reception includes remaining treatment needs and every participant’s recovery state.
Use these checks to document the technical evidence supporting the course outcomes in your agreed role. Record what you personally performed, what assistance you needed and what remains unobserved. A discussion or simulated action does not certify live equipment handling; Crew Support evidence does not confer Pilot qualification.
Game references and build-sensitive details
The linked pages were read for this revision. Community references mix release eras; each source note identifies what is used and what is excluded. Technical explanations below are an Academy synthesis, and drills and performance checks are Academy-designed. Before practice, compare the named actions with the installed LIVE build and actual equipment. Bind actions by name rather than copying old default keys. Research is not an in-game validation.
- Star Citizen Wiki — Medical
Body-part injuries, Hemozal, symptom medication, BDL, bed tiers and regeneration. Ship tables, resource costs and ranges change; inspect the actual bed and tool.
- Star Citizen Wiki — Quantum drive
Spooling, calibration, obstructions, orbital markers and interdiction. Its proposed quantum-boosting section is not used as a live procedure.
- Star Citizen Wiki — Controls
Control categories, movement axes and targeting concepts. The page contains legacy bindings and flight-system descriptions; use the installed game’s bindings, not its key table.
Check the official LIVE release notes and record the session build, equipment and observed limitations before practical sign-off.
Learn the method
1. Check the chain before dispatch
Connect the search assignment to available recovery equipment, transport and receiving capacity. Ask where the response would stop if one link failed. Name the person checking each dependency before crews are committed.
Trace one person through location, access, recovery, transport and reception. Identify the point at which the response would accumulate a queue if capacity changed. Dispatching more search resources does not resolve a transport bottleneck; the coordinating decision must address the stage that presently limits the whole response.
- Practise
- Brief the response with one limited resource.
- Ready when
- The brief identifies the limiting resource and a feasible response or hold decision.
2. Show your own contribution
Agree which coordination or recovery actions the observer will see. Keep the required practical recovery evidence distinct from the team’s overall success. When conditions change, explain your decision and carry out the part assigned to you.
Keep coordination and practical recovery evidence identifiable even when one learner performs both. The observer records which decisions and equipment actions belonged to the candidate. If an environmental failure prevents the practical, retain valid coordination evidence and arrange the missing observation rather than turning a good group result into an invented recovery demonstration.
- Practise
- Perform the response in the agreed assessed role.
- Ready when
- The assessor can identify your actions and the required practical evidence.
3. Close with the needs still open
Reconcile the found, moved and received counts. State who remains waiting and who will act next. Choose an improvement tied to something that happened, not a general promise to communicate better.
The closing report should reconcile located, recovered, transported and received people without collapsing those counts. Explain every remaining gap and transfer its next action. Choose an improvement that addresses the bottleneck observed in the exercise, such as confirming the second transport before assigning a second simultaneous pickup.
- Practise
- Give the final receiving handover and improvement action.
- Ready when
- Outstanding people and needs remain visible with owners and follow-up.
A worked decision
The search locates everyone, but transport is short. The coordinator plans staged movement and does not report the waiting group as received.
- Report four located without describing all four as recovered or moved. Check the recovery actions and individual evidence at that stage.
- Allocate the two confirmed seats under the stated priority and arrange an agreed waiting and follow-up plan for the others.
- Hand reception its actual arrivals and hand the response coordinator the remaining movement need. Choose an improvement tied to the capacity check or communication that failed.
Try it yourself
Run the response in your assessed role and submit matched search, recovery, movement and reception records. Explain the people still waiting at closure.
What changes during the exercise
Confirmed transport capacity falls after the casualty is located.
Keep this record
- Search observation / recovery action / individual evidence
- Confirmed transport / priority / moved and waiting counts
- Actual reception / remaining needs / improvement and owner
Plain-text worksheet with this case, your working fields and the assessment criteria. Fill it in privately; downloading does not submit work or record completion.
Check your reasoning
Search succeeded and the first transport arrived. What remains to be checked?
Compare your reasoning
Who was actually moved, who was received and who is still waiting for recovery, transport or the next service. Success at one stage does not close the whole response.
Answer first, then compare. In a later session, explain the decision using a changed case without referring to this answer.
How completion is judged
Individual observations, recovery evidence, receiving handover and open-needs list.
The assessor checks your own work against all three “Ready when” criteria above. Use the observed-skill checks in the technical chapter to establish the applicable game-handling evidence in your agreed role. A successful team result does not replace an action they did not observe.
Findings, another attempt and review
- Demonstrated
- Your observed work meets the criterion in the agreed role.
- Further practice required
- The assessor identifies the observed gap and the specific practice needed.
- Interrupted
- Equipment, staffing or personal circumstances prevented a valid assessment. This is not a failure.
- Not assessed
- There is not yet enough evidence for this outcome.
A fresh attempt
Keep transport available but reduce reception capacity. Ask the candidate to locate the new bottleneck and revise the response.
Reassess the missing outcome, plus any linked skill that needs new evidence. For prior learning, compare existing work with the same criteria and observe any missing practical action.
Ask for the reasons behind a finding. Reviews must be handled by someone independent of the original decision; defer the review if that person is not available.

Session setup and coaching
Prepare the session
Session-tested CS 202 equipment, volunteers, transport, observers and a reception case.
Assign crew stations and tell each learner what they will practise. The instructor must be able to hear the calls and see the action being assessed. Brief the callsigns, channel, route and expected duration. Replace the example locations with the places you will actually use.
- Ask the learner to explain the relevant earlier procedure without notes; correct any gap before the practical.
- Teach and demonstrate the technical chapter using the actual game indications. Run its drill with feedback before connecting those skills to the three methods and worked decision. Use the observed-skill checks to identify missing handling evidence.
- Let the learner complete the normal procedure first, then introduce the change described in the exercise. Give them time to respond without coaching. Keep unrelated failures out of this attempt.
- Record the learner's action against each criterion. Give one specific next step for any gap and transfer unfinished operational work before closing.
What to watch for in CS 299
Do not let a coordinator claim unobserved medical-gameplay evidence. The full award still requires the CS 202 practical outcomes.
If another attempt is needed
Keep transport available but reduce reception capacity. Ask the candidate to locate the new bottleneck and revise the response.
Running the exercise
Before the crew assembles, try the exercise in the ship you intend to use. Check station access, equipment and the route. Brief the crew on any faults that affect the task. If a bug prevents someone completing it, repeat that part once it works; do not record a failure for a broken mechanic.
Brief the command “Stop exercise” before starting. On that call, cease the drill and tell the instructor what needs attention. For weapons practice, identify the participating ships and crew; anyone else entering the area is a reason to hold fire.
Session administration: use player handles in your notes. Ask before recording voice or video, and agree when the recording will be deleted. Academy rules and review procedure.
